Letter from Nepal

Hello. I’m Mayan.
I live in Nepal.
I’m sixteen years old now.

I was born in the north of my country.
My parents were poor.
Already as a young child
I needed to help them
on their field and on the farm.
I could not go to school.
My parents did not have the money
and they needed my help badly.

Luckily, I met Ron.
Ron was born in my village too.
But he could go to school
and later graduated in Kathmandu.
He now runs a successful business.
Yet, he did not forget about his youth.
He decided to help children from his village.
He came to talk to my parents
and they finally accepted to send me to school.

That was 8 years ago.
I get good results at school.
I do my very best
and my dream it is to later find a good job
and to be able to help other children.
Ron has a lot of friends abroad
that sponsor the children he helps.

I’m so grateful to Ron
and to all those people helping
children like me to have an education
and to build a better future.

I hope many more people
will open their hearts to the friendship
of other children like me
whose parents do not have the means
to send them to school.

Lots of love from Nepal,

Mayan
